​Is blogging worth it?

I have a love-hate relationship with blogging. 

I enjoy the more reflective approach to writing that it forces. To draft something slightly longer, and a little more considered, than the average social media post helps me to shape my thinking.

I love the fact that it is less reactive as a result. 

I don’t like the fact that blog posts seem to have less interaction than social media. (This is not a plea for more interaction to my personal blog but a reflection that the world seems more interested in cats playing the piano than in more thoughtful topics.) 

I hate the fact that I don’t have time to blog because I’ve just spent 20 minutes watching cats play pianos … but, as a mirror, maintaining a blog is a good, if demanding, discipline.

I wonder if I have anything useful to add to the many voices in a crowded market? What is the point of adding another voice?

But, there is so much that is inspiring, exciting and yet unseen in life, faith and the world of missions and church planting. I believe it is important to share stories, raise questions and share lessons learnt along the way.

I’m not going to set myself a target. I’ll only miss it and who needs more hassle in life. So, we’ll see where this current burst of enthusiasm takes me.

What is poverty?

I have been very exercised recently for a number of reasons; 1/ Extended conversations with my teenage children about Sex trafficking (Initiated by the recent LZ7 track!) 2/ The dialogue online concerning the relative merits of Kony2012 campaign. 3/ Spending a morning praying for Street Children in Senegal (Talibes) and Prostitutes in Cambodia. 4/ Recently listening to a Dr M Loyd-Jones podcast - in which he refers to the state of 'apostasy' that the Church had got itself into at the end of the 19th, beginning of the 20th Century, as it cared so much for social, justice and poverty issues that it ceased to preach the gospel. (His words of course!) Now, where do my kids find their place in the midst of all of this? Our discussion centred around how meaningful is it to download a track and feel justified that you are doing something about sex trafficking? Is that simply consumer activism ... would we be so concerned to spend our 69p if we weren't getting a download out ...

Thoughts on following well!

In 1 John 2:3 we can read "We know that we have come to know Him (God) if we obey His commands." The Christian life is a life full of choices that we have to make at many levels ... but each time we are faced with a choice we want to be in that place where we choose well - we choose obedience. As another author once wrote "obedience is my gift to God!" Genesis 32 and 33 give some food for thought as we reflect on Jacob's journey: We can have the conviction that we serve a God who speaks to His children ... Ps 25 encourages us that He confides in us! What a precious statement, we tend not to confide in people we don't trust ... so, as the Lord confides in us that should encourage us that He is entrusting something to us! When  this revelation, instruction or direction comes, however it might come, it comes with clarity. Which means that we will both understand and have a personal conviction that the Lord has said this! Once the revelation has come...
