Sons of Issacher ... Are you one of them?

Can you hear it?

What is God doing in the world today?

What deep God-given longings stir in your hearts?

UK Revival Prophecy: Smith Wigglesworth 1947

Shortly before he passed into glory he prophesied, “During the next few decades there will be two distinct moves of the Holy Spirit across the church in Great Britain. The first move will affect every church that is open to receive it, and will be characterised by the restoration of the baptism and gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The second move of the Holy Spirit will result in people leaving historic churches and planting new churches. In the duration of each of these moves, the people who are involved will say, ‘This is a great revival.’ But the Lord says, ‘No, neither is this the great revival but both are steps towards it.’

When the new church phase is on the wane, there will be evidence in the churches of something that has not been seen before: a coming together of those with an emphasis on the word and those with an emphasis on the Spirit.

When the word and the Spirit come together, there will be the biggest move of the Holy Spirit that the nations, and indeed, the world have ever seen. It will mark the beginning of a revival that will eclipse anything that has been witnessed within these shores, even the Wesleyan and Welsh revivals of former years.

The outpouring of God’s Spirit will flow over from the United Kingdom to mainland Europe, and from there, will begin a missionary move to the ends of the earth.”

Here's the challenge - Many have been in the midst of revival but have remained totally unaffected ... So, whilst we would all like to think that when revival happens recognise it and will have the grace to follow what He is doing, that is not what Church history shows us!!

We might recognise God is doing a new thing, but will we allow ourselves to yield to the movings of the Holy Spirit ... Especially if He takes us in new, challenging and costly directions.

So how can we make sure we are on the frontier? We have to have a pioneering Spirit - We have to be missional people. WEC needs missionaries, God needs missionaries, the Church needs Missionaries ... But what does it mean to be missional?

Is it mainly about doing, or is it attitudinal? I believe it is about ordering our lives according to His order ... Putting first what should be first ... Seeking first the Kingdom and His righteousness ... Constantly striving to keep Him first in our affections.

What makes us missional?

Is it a personal call ... The preserve of a select few or for all?
Is it a command ... The word compels us and the Spirit within impels us ... But we don't all respond, and we don't always respond!

These might be important, but in themselves are not enough I think primarily it is a heart response to God ... To yield - to give up, to surrender or to give in ... To the Lordship of Christ. An unconditionally yielded life is one that can be used powerfully for the Kingdom ... And through which the Lord can move mightily...

It trusts ... We trust the Lord for the strength we need before we set out, and we experience His enabling as we move ahead ... We don't have all the resources we need before we start the journey!

It brings refreshing - both from within, an overflow of who we are in Christ, and which the Lord Himself augments!

It is driven by a different set of rules, passions and motivations.

So let us yield our lives afresh to Christ ... Let Him lead us wherever He wants us to go, whatever He wants us to do ... Lay down our conditions and follow ... He is worthy of no less!

Labels

Who are you? I have never been a great fan of labels when it comes to describing members of the body of Christ. eg. he is anglican, she is Baptist, they are Charismatic, etc. etc. I remember once causing a man to become increasingly hot under the collar when he asked me who I was? To which I replied I was a disciple (follower) of Jesus. He was meaning which Church did I attend (presumably so he could classify me and decide whether I was bona fide or not) and my answer did not bring him peace, but I refused to go any further.  Why? Because, as I said, I am not a great fan of labels, but also because for me there is a very important distinction between primarily identifying myself with Jesus and identifying myself with Church. Of course, I recognise that by becoming a follower of Jesus I become part of the body of Christ, but that can be very distinct from being a member of a Church. To me this is the crucial difference between vibrant faith and dusty religion.  I want t

Homes I have lived in #3

This year I am celebrating my silver wedding anniversary ... Just for something to do I have begun to sketch all the houses we have lived in during that time. So here is house number #3 On our return to the UK we were faced with the question that faces all people in transition, what next? For us, we were encouraged by our friends to investigate further training and opted to spend a year with Kerygma ministries. We joined with a group of some 20 other people from various different cultures and backgrounds to join the ministry led by Dr Bob Gordon, based at Drayton Hall near Norwich. We spent one year here, between September 1993 and July 1994.   Significant events that took place here included: Suffered reverse culture shock, as I grappled with the transition from life in a mudhut in Africa to life in the UK in a Manor House! (Struggled with the amount of money being spent on a sign that was being placed outside when

Happy Christmas!

It is the middle of the last afternoon before going away for a few days to celebrate Christmas with family in the south west ... I hope the snow will permit the travel! I just wanted to write to say 'Happy Christmas' to all of you who work, pray and support the work of WEC International here in the UK. (And, of course, any who have stumbled across this website - get in touch if you have any questions about what you are reading.) As I come to the end of the year I am reaching the end of my 'read the Bible in a year' programme - which has been tremendously inspiring and ultimately very satisfying. I already have my plan for what to do next year and am starting with a 30 day study of John 15 'The True Vine' - Andrew Murray... can't wait. As with most Bible reading programmes the book of Revelation comes last - much of which is difficult to understand to say the least ... however some aspects ring through loudly and clearly, and are an encouragement to us all
