I am now sat down in front of the TV watching a repeat run of Top Gear pondering how much I really want a cup of tea ... but not being bothered to get up and make it! Not what I usually do on a Friday afternoon but after a week of Leader's meetings, Trustees meetings and WEC UK Conference it is all I can muster the energy to do at this point!
So what are my initial reflections ... beyond 'Wow it's tiring leading a conference!'
Praise - Great, Teaching - Great, Equipping - Great, Debate - Robust and fruitful, Prayer - Moving, Business - Strategic, Fellowship - Encouraging, Weather - Cold, Biscuits - Too many!
If I had to choose three things that struck me most powerfully over the week they would be 'Worship - Movement - Progress'
Worship - because there is something very moving about worshipping together with a group of people who have committed their lives to serving the Living God. Regardless of ministry, culture, age or Church background - the underlying passion to do whatever it takes to see Christ glorified and His Kingdom extended throughout the UK and the world - leads to a fellowship of people liberated in Worship ... it is a privilege to be a part of such a fellowship - and very humbling to lead within it!
Movement - because when we looked at the challenge that remains in seeing the completion of the 'Great Commission', and recognised the ways in which we will need to adapt in order to be as effective as possible , we are willing to take those steps ... regardless of the personal/organisational challenge it will be.
Progress - To stop and see how past obedience has led to fruit today, we are filled with hope for all that is going to happen in the future. We hear a lot of talk about 'Change' and 'transition' and hopefully embarked upon in the hope of being more effective, or more relevant ... however, rather than use words to describe the process I prefer to use one word - obedience. As R T Kendall once wrote 'The job of every generation is to find out what God is doing and align themselves with it." If we want to be fruitful and relevant we don't need to change per se - we need to be obedient ...why? Because we serve the One who is eternally relevant and always in the process of building His Kingdom and transforming lives.
Quite simple really.
So Conference was a time to do just that ... listen, receive guidance and commit to doing ... can't wait to see the fruits over the coming months!
Now for a cup of tea ... a time to regroup over the weekend before pressing on!
